White man fatally shoots 3 Black people at a Florida store in what officials say is a hate crime JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A white man fatally shot three people inside a Jacksonville, Florida, Dollar General store on Saturday in a predominately Black neighborhood in an attack that the local sheriff called “racially motivated.” The shooter then killed himself.“He hated black people,” Sheriff T.K. Waters told a news conference. “There is absolutely no evidence the shooter is part of any larger group.”Waters said the shooter, who was in his 20s, used a Glock handgun and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with at least one of the firearms painted with a swastika. He left behind writings that led investigators to believe that he committed the shooting because it was the fifth anniversary of when another gunman opened fire during a video game tournament in Jacksonville, killing two people before fatally shooting himself. The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. at a Dollar General near Edward Waters University, a small historically Black university. The shooter had driven there from neighboring ...

What we learned from SF Giants’ seventh-straight series loss

What we learned from SF Giants’ seventh-straight series loss SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants offense is the Wilmer Flores Show until further notice. On Saturday, Flores hit his 19th home run off Braves star Max Fried to tie a career-high set last season. He’s hit 11 of the Giants’ last 34 home runs and coupled his consistent power with an improved contact rate that’s made him the team’s best hitter. The clutch guy, the pillar.Flores’ two-run home run tied the game 2-2 in the third inning and gave the Giants a glimmer of hope to salvage a series against Atlanta. With how things are going in San Francisco, there was no one else in the Giants lineup that could keep that mojo going as they fell 7-3 and lost the series at Oracle Park with a chance to prevent a sweep on nationally televised Sunday Night Baseball. With that, they’ve lost seven straight series dating back to a two-game sweep against the bottom-feeding Oakland A’s in July. They’ve dropped 14 of their last 19 games and, as th...

Viktor Hovland shoots 66 for 6-shot lead at Tour Championship to close in on FedEx Cup title ATLANTA (AP) — Viktor Hovland delivered another sterling performance, this time starting from the top that allowed him to pull away Saturday in the Tour Championship with a 4-under 66 that gave him a six-shot lead going into the final round of the PGA Tour season. That leaves the Norwegian star 18 holes away from the $18 million bonus.Hovland came into East Lake fresh off a 61 in the final round at Olympia Fields — 28 on the back nine — to rally for a victory in the BMW Championship. He was tied with Collin Morikawa to start the sunbaked third round, with Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele all lined up behind him. No one could keep pace, especially after a 90-minute stoppage because of storms in the area.Hovland, who started at 8-under par as the No. 2 seed, was at 20 under.Schauffele, who has never finished worse than seventh or shot worse than par in his seven years playing the Tour Championship, had a 68 and was at 14 under. All he could think about was a pair of 4-f...
