Angry reaction after Spanish soccer leader kissed a Women’s World Cup star on the mouth

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 15:26:23 GMT

By DAVID BRUNAT and GRAHAM DUNBAR (Associated Press)MADRID (AP) — The leader of Spain’s soccer federation left a sour taste on the country’s Women’s World Cup victory after kissing a player on the lips during the medal ceremony, drawing criticism for inappropriate conduct in a sport that has struggled to overcome sexism. The Spanish government and the world players’ union condemned the behavior of Luis Rubiales on Monday, a day after Spain’s 1-0 win over England. The soccer federation led by Rubiales sought to downplay the incident through a statement it attributed to the player he kissed.Immediately after Spain’s victory, Rubiales grabbed his crotch in a victory gesture — seemingly oblivious to 16-year-old Princess Infanta Sofía standing nearby. He later kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the medal and trophy ceremony on the field, drawing unwanted attention away from the celebration and marring the country’s big...

Kiszla vs. Gabriel: How far up the Broncos’ RB depth chart can Jaleel McLaughlin run in Cinderella slippers?

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 15:26:23 GMT

Kiz: For a guy wearing glass slippers in the Broncos huddle, running back Jaleel McLaughlin shows amazing burst when toting the rock. McLaughlin, an undrafted rookie out of Youngstown State, is the Cinderella story of this training camp. With 65 yards on 11 carries, McLaughlin leads the team in rushing through two preseason games. He’s a lock to make the 53-man roster. But how much run does this story really have when the NFL begins keeping score for real? How many carries can McLaughlin take from Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine in the regular season?Gabriel: Even 10 days ago I would have pushed back against the “lock” designation with McLaughlin, but his push is undeniable at this point. He’s got juice. Whether it’s a seam between the tackles, turning up field after catching a screen or defeating pursuit angles on a 44-yard kick return against San Francisco, McLaughlin has speed the Broncos otherwise lack on offense. He’s not exactly a third-down back — he’s going to have ...

Punks get Heavily Medicated: Heavy Medication is a label specializing in sleazy, raw rock & roll, based out of Warsaw, Poland. Bands with names like the Primevals, Hell Nation Army, and the Wild Zeros have found a home there and, as this two-day showcase at the Redwood Bar & Grill proved, there’s no shortage of L.A. talent on there. We unfortunately couldn’t make it on the Friday night, though we’re assured that the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs, the Dogs and Richard Duguay put in excellent performances. The first two in particular we’ve seen a number of times , and they never let the crowd down.Neverland Ranch Davidians (Brett Callwood)We were there on Saturday, and all three bands killed it. Talking to this writer in June, Tex Mosley of the Neverland Ranch Davidians described his band’s sound as, “low-fi, streetwise, lower east side with a dash of Memphis Soul. That about nails it. Mosely is a glorious frontman — super-cool and suave,...

Nissan is recalling more than 236,000 small cars in the U.S. because the tie rods in the front suspension can bend and break, possibly causing drivers to lose steering control. The recall covers certain Sentra compact cars from the 2020 through 2022 model years. Tie rods help vehicles move the wheels for steering.Nissan says in documents posted Saturday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that if tie rods become bent, they can break and affect the steering, increasing the risk of a crash.Owners should contact dealers if their steering wheel is off center or they feel a vibration. At first, dealers will inspect and replace any bent or broken tie rods. Once a new design is available, they will replace both the left and right tie rods at no cost to owners.Letters notifying owners will be mailed starting Oct. 5. A second letter will go out once parts are available. Many of the same vehicles were recalled in 2021 to fix the same problem, the documents say. Cars repaired u...
