Delta Air Lines says the California pilot accused of threatening to shoot the plane’s captain during a flight no longer works for the airline, and federal officials say his authority to carry a gun on board was revoked.Jonathan J. Dunn was indicted Oct. 18 and charged with interfering with a flight crew over an incident that occurred during a flight in August 2022. What to watch: ‘The Holdovers’ could be a new holiday classic

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:48:09 GMT

Is it possible that there’s a new classic holiday film dropping down our chimneys? This week we check out a contender for that title,  Alexander Payne’s seasonally appropriate — for December — “The Holdovers.” We also take a look at Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” and the inspirational school drama “Radical.”The biggest disappointment, though, arrives from Netflix with “All the Light We Cannot See,” based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and bearing one atrocious accent. Here’s our roundup.“The Holdovers”: Take that perennial Christmas chestnut you watch time and time again. Sprinkle in elements of “Dead Poets Society.” Then let someone like the late filmmaker Hal Ashby, who graced us with “Harold and Maude,” baste it and bake it.That somewhat conveys what you have with Alexander Payne’s holiday-themed treat, a droll but fragile character study about three loners stuck together in 1970 at a snowy New England prep school during what’s allegedly the “most wonderful time...

SAN JOSE – For the still-winless San Jose Sharks, there is no such thing right now as leaving your problems at the rink.“When I go home after a game or I’m sitting in a hotel room after a road game,” Sharks center Nico Sturm said, “it bothers me a great deal.”“I’m coming home, I’m pissed off, just thinking about what I could have done and what we should have done,” Sharks winger Anthony Duclair said, “and thinking about the next game and how to get out of this.”There are no easy answers for a Sharks team that went winless in October, has scored nine goals in nine games, and is now two losses away from tying the NHL record for most consecutive defeats to start a season with 11, shared by the 1943-44 New York Rangers and the 2017-2018 Arizona Coyotes.Oh, and injured top-six forwards Logan Couture (lower body) and Alexander Barabanov (broken finger) will both be out for a few more weeks, at least. But if there is any positivity to be had right now for the Sharks (0-8-1...

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Union Pacific is trimming the ranks of the railroad’s management employees as part of the new CEO’s push to eliminate layers of bosses involved in decision making. The railroad, based in Omaha, Nebraska, said Wednesday that it is eliminating less than 5% of its roughly 5,600 management jobs.Everyone who is losing their job was encouraged to either apply for a job helping operate or maintain Union Pacific’s trains or to stay on for several months to help tackle one of about a couple dozen special projects.Fewer than 275 management jobs were being eliminated, but the final number of cuts will depend on how many managers take other jobs with the railroad.CEO Jim Vena made streamlining the organization one of his first priorities after taking the job in August.“You can’t have nine levels from the CEO to the people who actually do the work and expect that the message is clear, the decisions are made clear and there isn’t some hiccup in the decision,” V...
