ST. LOUIS - There's a possibility that St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues games could be broadcast on Amazon Prime after their 2024 seasons. E-commerce giant Amazon is considering a partnership with the Diamond Sports Group that could lead to Amazon Prime streaming games currently airing on Diamond's regional sports networks, according to reports Monday from the Wall Street Journal and Axios. That would include games on Bally Sports Midwest, the broadcast home of the Cardinals and Blues. Diamond Sports Group, the largest owner of regional sports networks, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March after missing a $140 million interest payment. Last month, multiple reports hinted that the Diamond Sports Group could shut down after fulfilling obligations for the 2024 MLB regular season, which ends in late September. The news of potential interest rate cuts next year could leave would-be homebuyers with visions of lower mortgage rates dancing in their heads. But it’s too late to take advantage of more favorable terms on that $13 million house in Boulder or the $14.7 million, nine-bedroom home in Golden. Those two made the list of some of the priciest home sales across the state in 2023, a year in which higher mortgages certainly didn’t hinder the luxury home market. There’s luxury, and then there’s Aspen luxury. The most expensive property on the list compiled by The Agency, a global, boutique real estate brokerage, sold for $76 million, five time the amount of the home in Golden. The 21,500-square foot home in Aspen comes with ski-in access from Aspen Mountain, a swimming pool, a bowling alley and seven bedrooms. The second-priciest home sold this year in the tony mountain enclave, at $65 million, is just a few hundred yards from the Aspen Mountain Gondola with “greate...

Queen Bea Rules El Rey

Queen Bea Rules El Rey: Saturday was the last night of Bea Miller‘s Gauche tour, her first jaunt in four years. It concluded with two nights in Los Angeles at the El Rey, and we dropped by the second on Saturday night.Miller has come a hell of a long way since she was a contestant on season two of The X-Factor in 2012 when she was just 13. Two albums and eight EPs followed over the 11 years, as her sound evolved into the gritty, lyrically sharp, hyper alt-pop that it is today. Before Miller performed, her guitar player Ethan Tasch opened proceedings with a 15 minute set of his own. Tasch is a solo acoustic indie folk artist and while he said at the top that the aesthetic is slightly odd for this gig, screw it. “Bea Shmee,” he said with a chuckle. “This is my show.”His songs, while more chill than what follows, are still infectious and compelling enough to appeal to a pop crowd. The opening “Hold Up” is a highlight, as it “Room.” By the time he ends with ...

As climate warms, that perfect Christmas tree may depend on growers’ ability to adapt

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:49:03 GMT

CHICAGO (AP) — Christmas tree breeder Jim Rockis knows what it looks like when one dies long before it can reach a buyer.Rockis farms trees in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, where he and other producers often grow their iconic evergreens outside their preferred habitat higher in the mountains. But that can mean planting in soil that’s warmer and wetter — places where a nasty fungal disease called Phytophthora root rot can take hold, sucking moisture away from saplings and causing needles to crisp to burnt orange.“After a while, it just gets to the core of it,” Rockis said. “They just wither away.”Christmas tree growers and breeders have long prepared for a future of hotter weather that will change soil conditions, too. People buying trees may not have noticed a difference in availability this year and may not even in the next couple; the average Christmas tree takes eight to 10 years to reach marketable size. But that means the trees being grown right now are the beloved holid...
